An oasis of serenity and hospitality, Hotel Play Negra is positioned right on the ocean front and offers 10 bungalows and 7 suite-bungalows, all located in a tropical garden, a few steps from the beach. All are round and independent (except for the double suite-bungalow) and are built with a palm leaves’ roof. Thanks to the high roofs and the many windows, an ocean breeze flows throughout, cooling them naturally day and night.

Hotel Play Negra has a restaurant and bar located right on the beach, serving a large variety of food, including Costa Rican traditional dishes such as “casados”, many different salads, tropical fruit platters, fresh fish, lobster and other seafood, first choice “lomito” (tenderloin steaks), as well as hamburgers, sandwiches and pasta.

Beyond surfing, relaxing by the pool or on the beach, there are a number of activities to enjoy in the area, such as: horseback riding tours, tours to national parks or other areas, fishing boat trips, mountain bike tours, canopy tours and yoga.

Located directly in front of the hotel is Playa Negra. Considered to be one of the top spots in Costa Rica, Playa Negra has a rock bottom with perfect right-hand barrels and a well defined channel for paddling out. The break has good exposure to swells from both the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. December through April is the dry season, and surfers can expect steady off-shore breezes, cloudless skies and flawless conditions.

Far from other tourist developments, Playa Negra offers a surfing experience in pristine conditions: crystal clear water, abundant sea life and remnants of the tropical forest down to the high tide line. A white sand beach just to the south provides swimming and boogie-boarding opportunities for the whole family. Numerous other breaks are within walking distance, including some off-shore reefs for the more adventurous, whilst a short drive widens your horizons to include dozens of other spots including the reef, beach and rivermouth breaks at Avellanas, a quick 10 minutes by car from Hotel Playa Negra, and another 30 mins brings you to Tamarindo.

Boat trips to Witch’s Rock and Ollie’s Point can also be organised at the surf shop next to the hotel.
